JAKARTA — Indonesia is advancing 93 hydrogen ecosystem development initiatives across the country with a combined investment value of 32 trillion rupiah ($2.05 billion), the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry said on Tuesday.
Eniya Listiani Dewi, the ministry's director general of new, renewable energy and energy conservation, said the government was overseeing the projects to accelerate their implementation. She made the remarks at the opening of the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit and Exhibition in Jakarta.
The initiatives are part of Indonesia's efforts to develop a domestic hydrogen ecosystem and support a transition toward lower-carbon energy, according to the ministry.
The government also launched a pilot Hydrogen Diesel Dual Fuel (H2 DDF) bus programme in partnership with state-owned transit operator Perum DAMRI. The project modifies conventional diesel engines to operate using a blend of diesel and hydrogen, with the stated aims of reducing diesel consumption and tailpipe emissions.
The ministry said the technology could eventually be applied to other uses, including passenger vehicles, drones, forklifts and household stoves.
Indonesia is also developing a proposed 194-kilometre Green Hydrogen Corridor linking Jakarta, Karawang and Patimban to connect hydrogen production with industrial and port hubs, according to ministry officials.
The 93 projects remain at varying stages of development, and further details on their individual timelines and investment structures were not immediately available. The government is continuing to oversee the initiatives as the hydrogen programme develops.
