Mar 25, 2026 - Dayton James Webber, a 27-year-old professional cornhole player and the first quadruple amputee to compete in the American Cornhole League, was charged with first-degree murder and second-degree murder in the shooting death of a passenger in his car.

Webber, of La Plata, Maryland, faces additional related charges in connection with the death of 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells. Authorities said the shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. on March 22 during an argument while Webber was driving in Charles County, Maryland. Wells was shot in the head and died at the scene.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office reported that Webber then drove to Virginia, where he sought medical treatment at a hospital. After his release, he was arrested by police in Albemarle County, Virginia, and charged as a fugitive from justice. Charles County officials are seeking his extradition to Maryland.

Webber became a professional cornhole player after losing all four limbs as an infant due to a severe bacterial infection. He has competed in the American Cornhole League, making history as the first quadruple amputee in the professional, televised league. He has won multiple tournaments and gained recognition for his achievements in the sport.

The incident took place in La Plata, a town in southern Maryland about 40 miles south of Washington, D.C. Investigators said the shooting stemmed from an argument inside the vehicle, but did not release further details about the dispute or the weapon used. The body of the victim was found in the area of Charlotte Hall, according to preliminary reports.

Webber remained in custody in Virginia as of Tuesday. No bond information or court appearance date in Maryland was immediately available. The Charles County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the case.
