KYIV — Russia and Ukraine continued exchanging long-range strikes on Saturday as the war showed no sign of easing, even as international diplomatic and political attention remained heavily focused on the crisis involving Iran and its implications for global security.

Ukrainian authorities said Russian missile and drone attacks struck multiple regions, causing civilian casualties and damaging residential buildings and infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said several of the attacks hit populated areas and again urged Ukraine's partners to accelerate deliveries of air defense systems and other military assistance.

Russian authorities, meanwhile, reported that Ukrainian drone attacks targeted energy and transport infrastructure inside Russia. Officials in the Samara region said one person was killed and several others were injured after an attack that damaged residential properties and an industrial facility. Russian media identified the facility as the Syzran oil refinery, although officials did not immediately confirm the target. Authorities in the Rostov region also reported damage to an empty tanker in the Azov-Black Sea maritime canal.

Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian oil facilities, fuel infrastructure and maritime logistics in recent months, describing the campaign as an effort to weaken Russia's ability to sustain its military operations. Moscow has responded with intensified missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, while continuing offensive operations along parts of the front line.

The fighting has continued as governments worldwide devote substantial diplomatic attention to tensions involving Iran and security in the Middle East. Analysts say the parallel crises have complicated international diplomacy, with efforts to revive negotiations aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war remaining stalled. Previous rounds of talks involving the United States, Russia and Ukraine have been postponed, and no date has been announced for renewed negotiations.

Despite the competing international focus, Ukraine's Western allies have continued to pledge military and political support. Kyiv has repeatedly called for additional air defense systems and ammunition, arguing they are critical to protecting civilians from sustained Russian aerial attacks.

Russia maintains that its military operations are directed at targets linked to Ukraine's defense capabilities, while Ukraine says many recent strikes have hit civilian areas and critical infrastructure. Neither side's battlefield claims could be independently verified.

There has been no indication from either Moscow or Kyiv of an imminent ceasefire, and military operations continued across multiple sectors of the front as officials on both sides reported additional attacks through Saturday.
