The Justice Department has said federal officers have faced an "unprecedented wave of harassment, doxing, and even violence" in defending a lawsuit challenging a Virginia law affecting the identification requirements for certain federal law enforcement personnel. The department argued the state law could endanger officers carrying out federal duties.
Separately, federal agencies have continued reviewing security procedures for government buildings, public events and personnel protection. Recent federal regulations and guidance cite an elevated threat environment and the need for agencies to improve coordination, advance planning and protective operations in response to evolving security risks.
