NEW DELHI — The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a digital Local Pass facility on the RajmargYatra mobile application, allowing eligible highway commuters to purchase monthly toll passes online without visiting toll plazas, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said.
The new service is aimed at simplifying access for residents living near eligible toll plazas by moving the application and verification process to a digital platform. Under the system, residents within a 20-kilometre radius of an eligible toll plaza can apply for a local pass through the RajmargYatra app, according to NHAI.
Previously, commuters seeking local passes were required to visit toll plazas and submit documents to establish eligibility. NHAI said the digital process removes the need for physical visits and enables users to complete verification and purchase procedures through the mobile application.
The Local Pass provides eligible users unlimited travel through the respective toll plaza for one month, according to information released by NHAI. The facility was initially introduced at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II, with plans to expand the service to additional toll plazas across India, the ministry said.
Alongside the Local Pass, NHAI also introduced the MargMitra Help Centre within the RajmargYatra application. The digital assistance platform is designed to help highway users access information, register grievances and seek support through text and voice services in multiple Indian languages, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The initiatives form part of NHAI’s broader effort to expand digital services for National Highway users, including integrating toll-related services and commuter assistance into a single mobile platform. The ministry said the changes are intended to reduce manual documentation and improve access to highway services.
RajmargYatra has previously been used by NHAI to provide digital highway-related services, including FASTag-linked facilities and other commuter support features. The authority has continued expanding app-based services as part of efforts to increase technology adoption across India’s highway network.
NHAI said the Local Pass facility will be expanded to more eligible toll plazas in phases. The authority has not announced a final nationwide rollout timeline.
