LONDON — Prominent figures from the music and film industries made headlines this week with new creative and commercial agreements, highlighted by Academy Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins signing a recording contract as a classical composer and expanding a career that has spanned more than six decades on stage and screen.

Hopkins, 88, has signed with Decca Classics to release Life Is a Dream, an orchestral album featuring original compositions written over more than 60 years, according to the label and the artist. The album is scheduled for release on Aug. 21, accompanied by the debut single, “Bracken Road.”

The project marks Hopkins' first recording agreement as a composer, although he has written music throughout his life. The album is performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra under Grammy-winning conductor Gustavo Dudamel, with solo performances by cellist Gregorio Nieto and pianist Sergio Tiempo.

“Music was my first desire, my first wish,” Hopkins said in a statement released by Decca Classics. “I've been composing music all my life. Some of these pieces have lived with me for decades and I still find myself returning to them.”

Decca Classics President Laura Monks described the signing as an opportunity to introduce audiences to another dimension of Hopkins' artistic work, saying the recordings reflect a lifetime of musical knowledge and creativity.

Known internationally for Academy Award-winning performances in The Silence of the Lambs and The Father, Hopkins began studying piano as a young child and composed music for local theatrical productions before establishing his acting career. According to the label, the new album draws inspiration from his childhood in Wales, family experiences and personal memories accumulated over decades.

The announcement comes amid a broader period of activity across the entertainment industry, with artists and studios continuing to announce new partnerships, recording agreements and production projects as companies position major releases for the second half of 2026.

Industry analysts have noted that established performers increasingly are pursuing careers across multiple creative disciplines, reflecting sustained demand for projects that extend well-known artists' work beyond their primary fields.

For Hopkins, the release represents the fulfillment of a longstanding personal ambition rather than a departure from acting. While he continues to be recognized for his film career, he has described composition as a lifelong passion that predates his success in cinema.

The first single from Life Is a Dream is now available, while the full album remains scheduled for release on Aug. 21, according to Decca Classics.
