MADRID — Spain fans filled streets and public squares across the country to celebrate the national team’s FIFA World Cup final victory over Argentina, with large gatherings reported in Madrid, Barcelona and other cities after the team secured its second men’s World Cup title.
Supporters gathered around giant screens and traditional celebration sites after Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final held in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time, giving Spain its first men’s World Cup championship since 2010.
In Madrid, fans wearing national team colors and carrying Spanish flags gathered in central areas, including Cibeles Square, a long-standing location for celebrations involving Spanish football teams. Local reports said supporters remained in the streets after the final whistle, with celebrations continuing into the following day.
The national team returned to Spain and received official welcomes from King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez before taking part in celebrations in the capital. The victory marked Spain’s second men’s World Cup triumph, following its 2010 title in South Africa. The result also added another major international achievement for Spanish football, which won the women’s World Cup in 2023.
