DES MOINES, Iowa — The Powerball jackpot has climbed to an estimated $1.787 billion ahead of Saturday night's drawing, making it the third-largest advertised jackpot in the game's history after another drawing ended without a grand prize winner, according to Powerball officials.
The estimated annuity jackpot follows a series of drawings in which no ticket matched all five white balls and the Powerball number. Winners may choose between the advertised annuity paid over 30 years or a one-time cash option, with the cash value determined before the drawing and subject to federal and, where applicable, state taxes.
Powerball, operated by the Multi-State Lottery Association and participating U.S. lotteries, said the drawing will be held Saturday night in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The odds of winning the jackpot remain approximately 1 in 292.2 million.
The current prize ranks behind only the record $2.04 billion jackpot won in California in November 2022 and the $1.817 billion jackpot won in Arkansas on Dec. 24, 2025, according to Powerball's official list of the game's largest jackpots. The current estimate surpasses the $1.765 billion prize won in California in October 2023, moving into third place.
Lottery officials said jackpot growth has been driven by repeated rollovers as no ticket has matched all six numbers. While the top prize has continued to increase, players in recent drawings have claimed millions of dollars in lower-tier prizes by matching some, but not all, of the winning numbers.
Powerball tickets cost $2, with optional add-on features available in many jurisdictions that can increase non-jackpot prizes for an additional charge. The game holds drawings three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evenings.
Lottery officials routinely remind players that the advertised jackpot reflects the annuity option and that actual cash payouts are lower. Winners are also encouraged to consult financial and legal advisers before claiming major prizes because claiming procedures, disclosure rules and tax obligations vary by state.
If no ticket matches all six numbers in Saturday's drawing, the jackpot will continue to roll over, with the next prize estimate to be announced by Powerball officials after the drawing concludes.
