JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi authorities were conducting a manhunt on Tuesday after two women and a 2-year-old child were found fatally shot at a home in Jackson, with investigators saying they were working to identify and locate those responsible for the killings.
Jackson police said officers responding to a 911 call reporting an aggravated assault on Saturday night instead discovered the three victims, all of whom had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Police described the case as a triple homicide and said the investigation remains active.
Police Chief RaShall Brackney told reporters the crime scene was "heinous" and said detectives were pursuing multiple investigative leads. Authorities have not announced any arrests, identified a suspect or disclosed a possible motive.
Investigators said a red 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage believed to have been taken from the scene was considered a key lead early in the investigation. The vehicle was later recovered abandoned in North Jackson and is being processed for forensic evidence, according to the Jackson Police Department.
Officials said one of the women was the mother of the 2-year-old child. Authorities have not released additional information about the relationship between the victims or circumstances leading to the shooting.
Jackson Mayor John Horhn said the city was coordinating with law enforcement and public safety officials to deploy additional resources following the killings and to address recent gun violence in the city.
Police urged anyone with information about the case to contact investigators, saying detectives were continuing efforts to identify and locate those responsible. Authorities said the investigation remained ongoing, and additional details had not been confirmed as of Tuesday.
