BERLIN—Major music festivals across Europe, North America and Asia have begun the 2026 summer season, with multi-day events opening this weekend and international lineups featuring pop, electronic and rock artists, according to festival organizers.
The start of the season comes as large-scale festivals resume their peak scheduling period between late June and August, when hundreds of events operate globally and attract international touring acts across multiple continents, according to listings compiled by industry guides and organizers.
In Europe, several established festivals are underway or set to open in the coming days, including Rock Werchter in Belgium, Latitude Festival in the United Kingdom and Awakenings in the Netherlands, which feature a mix of rock, indie and electronic acts, according to official festival schedules. Lollapalooza Chicago is scheduled for late July in the United States, with organizers confirming a multi-genre lineup spanning hip-hop, pop and alternative artists.
Tomorrowland in Belgium, one of the world’s largest electronic music festivals, is scheduled for mid- to late July in Boom and is expected to feature headliners including David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Martin Garrix, according to a lineup published by festival organizers earlier this year. The event is among several large EDM gatherings that typically draw attendees from more than 100 countries.
Music industry analysts say the summer festival circuit remains a key revenue driver for artists and promoters, with live performances accounting for a significant share of touring income as recorded music consumption continues to shift toward streaming platforms.
“Boom, Belgium, will once again transform into the magical world of Tomorrowland,” organizers said in a statement announcing this year’s theme, without providing additional changes to its previously released artist roster.
In the United States, Governor’s Ball in New York earlier this month opened the North American festival calendar with performances by a mix of established and emerging artists, while additional large-scale events including Bonnaroo in Tennessee and Summerfest in Wisconsin are scheduled through June and July, according to festival calendars.
In Asia, Summer Sonic in Japan is set to take place later in the season in Tokyo and Osaka, continuing its long-running format of hosting international rock and pop acts alongside regional performers, according to organizers.
Most major festivals are expected to continue rolling out daily programming updates and stage schedules through July and August, with no significant cancellations or disruptions announced as of Saturday, according to official festival communications.
