NEW YORK — Robinhood Markets Chief Executive Vlad Tenev said government-backed Trump Accounts could introduce millions of young Americans to long-term investing while arguing that the next phase of retail trading will be shaped by broader access to global markets, tokenized assets and new financial products.

Speaking in media interviews following the nationwide rollout of the Trump Accounts program, Tenev said the initiative was designed to encourage long-term investing from an early age and described the accounts as a straightforward option for eligible families. Robinhood serves as the brokerage and initial trustee for the program in partnership with BNY under the oversight of the U.S. Treasury.

The Trump Accounts program provides eligible U.S. children born between 2025 and 2028 with a $1,000 government contribution into tax-advantaged investment accounts after required enrollment procedures are completed. According to the Treasury and Robinhood, contributions are invested in qualifying low-cost index funds, while additional annual deposits may be made by families and other eligible contributors.

Tenev said the initiative aligns with Robinhood's long-standing goal of expanding participation in financial markets, adding that introducing investing at a younger age could strengthen financial literacy and long-term wealth creation. In separate television interviews, he characterized the accounts as a "no-brainer" for new parents and beneficial for eligible children.

Beyond the government-backed savings program, Tenev said Robinhood expects trading to evolve through products that provide customers with broader market access, including around-the-clock trading and additional digital asset offerings where regulations permit. He also pointed to continued investor interest in perpetual futures and other technology-driven trading tools as retail participation expands.

Robinhood has said the company developed the technology infrastructure supporting Trump Accounts and launched a dedicated application to help eligible families activate and manage accounts. The brokerage said millions of eligible children could ultimately participate as enrollment expands.

The Trump Accounts initiative was established under federal legislation and has drawn support from several financial institutions and corporations that have pledged additional contributions for eligible employees' children. The program has also attracted political attention because it represents a government-backed effort to encourage equity ownership among younger Americans.

Robinhood has not announced changes to the program's structure beyond the current nationwide rollout, while Treasury officials have said eligible families can continue opening and activating accounts through the official enrollment process.
