Graham's office announced that the four-term senator died on Saturday evening and said his family had requested privacy. The office did not disclose a cause of death. Emergency responders were dispatched to Graham's Capitol Hill residence following a cardiac arrest call on Saturday night, according to emergency communications reviewed by multiple news organizations, although officials have not publicly confirmed a medical cause.
Tributes came from across the political spectrum and from international leaders who had worked closely with Graham during his more than two decades in the Senate. President Donald Trump described Graham as "one of the greatest people and senators I have ever known," while South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster praised his longtime service to the state and nation.
