NEW YORK—Nvidia has disclosed a 9.3% stake in AI cloud infrastructure company Nebius, deepening its financial commitment to the fast-growing sector as the chipmaker continues investing in companies that expand demand for artificial intelligence computing capacity.
The stake, revealed in a regulatory filing, comprises about 22.3 million Nebius shares, including securities tied to warrants received as part of Nvidia's previously announced $2 billion investment in the Amsterdam-based company earlier this year. The filing indicates Nvidia is restricted from exercising certain warrants until September.
Shares of Nasdaq-listed Nebius rose sharply following the disclosure, while Nvidia also traded higher. Investors viewed the filing as further evidence of Nvidia's strategy of supporting AI infrastructure providers that deploy its processors to meet growing demand for generative AI and large-scale computing services.
Nebius, formerly part of Dutch-registered technology group Yandex before its restructuring, has positioned itself as an AI-focused cloud provider serving enterprises and AI developers. The company is among a group of so-called "neocloud" operators that rent high-performance computing capacity built around Nvidia hardware.
In March, Nvidia and Nebius announced a strategic partnership under which Nvidia agreed to invest $2 billion and collaborate on AI infrastructure, inference systems and AI factory design. The companies said the partnership would support Nebius' goal of deploying more than 5 gigawatts of Nvidia-powered computing capacity by the end of 2030.
Nebius has continued expanding its infrastructure footprint in recent months, announcing new data center investments and financing initiatives intended to accelerate the build-out of its AI cloud platform. The company has said it is pursuing customers across enterprise, research and AI development markets as demand for advanced computing resources continues to outpace available supply.
Nvidia has increasingly backed cloud infrastructure providers and AI developers as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the ecosystem surrounding its graphics processors. The company has also invested in other AI-focused businesses, reflecting continued spending on infrastructure supporting AI model training and inference despite heightened investor scrutiny of valuations across the sector.
Neither company announced additional changes to their partnership alongside the latest ownership disclosure, and the regulatory filing represents the most recent confirmed update on Nvidia's holding in Nebius.
