NEW YORK — Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on Sunday, securing their second men’s World Cup title after substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute.
The final, played at New York New Jersey Stadium, remained scoreless through regulation as Spain controlled much of the possession while Argentina defended deep and attempted to contain Spain’s attacking pressure. FIFA reported that Torres broke the deadlock early in extra time after Nico Williams headed down a cross from Pedro Porro, allowing the forward to finish past Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino joined officials from the host nations in presenting medals after the match, with Spain captain Rodri receiving the World Cup trophy. FIFA said the final concluded a 39-day tournament that featured the first edition of the competition with 48 teams.
