KYIV — Russian ballistic missiles struck multiple districts of the Ukrainian capital early on Thursday, killing at least two people and injuring six others, city officials said, in the latest attack on Kyiv as Russia intensified its aerial campaign against Ukraine.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the victims were killed in the Darnytskyi district, where the strike ignited fires at administrative and warehouse buildings and damaged parked trucks. He said six people were injured, including a 16-year-old, while emergency crews were responding at several locations across the city.
The Kyiv City Military Administration said ballistic missiles hit at least two districts, triggering multiple fires. Ukraine's Air Force warned during the attack that additional ballistic missiles were heading toward the capital and urged residents to remain in shelters while air defence units engaged the incoming weapons.
The full extent of the damage was still being assessed, and officials said casualty figures could change as rescue operations continued. Authorities did not immediately provide details on the specific facilities struck beyond reporting damage to warehouse and storage buildings.
Russia's Defence Ministry later said its forces had carried out strikes on what it described as military and industrial targets in Kyiv, as well as infrastructure at the Black Sea ports of Odesa and Pivdennyi. The ministry said the facilities in Kyiv were involved in the production and storage of drones, while Ukrainian authorities reported civilian casualties and damage in the capital. Reuters could not independently verify the competing battlefield claims.
The missile strike was the latest in a series of attacks on Kyiv in recent weeks. Emergency services remained at the affected sites, and officials said investigations and rescue work were continuing.
