NEW YORK — The New York Knicks completed the largest comeback in NBA Finals history, rallying from a 29-point deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 and take a 3-1 lead in the 2026 NBA Finals, according to the NBA.
The victory moved the Knicks within one win of their first NBA championship since 1973 after a dramatic Game 4 finish at Madison Square Garden. OG Anunoby scored the decisive basket with 1.2 seconds remaining, tipping in a missed three-point attempt by Jalen Brunson to give New York its first lead of the game and complete the record comeback.
The Spurs controlled much of the contest, building a 29-point advantage before the Knicks mounted their comeback. San Antonio entered the fourth quarter with a significant lead, but New York closed the gap behind a late surge led by Brunson and Anunoby. Brunson finished with 36 points and seven assists, while Anunoby scored 33 points, according to NBA and game reports.
The rally surpassed the previous NBA Finals comeback record of 24 points, set during the 2008 Finals. The Knicks’ victory also gave them three opportunities to close out the best-of-seven series and claim the franchise’s first title in more than five decades.
New York’s comeback was fueled by a strong second-half turnaround after struggling early. The Spurs had taken control of the game with an efficient offensive start, but the Knicks tightened defensively and converted key possessions late. NBA coverage highlighted the fourth-quarter momentum shift and Anunoby’s final putback as the defining moments of the game.
San Antonio, led by Victor Wembanyama and its supporting cast, was unable to preserve the lead after entering the second half in control. The Spurs will attempt to extend the series in Game 5, while the Knicks will have the chance to secure the championship on the road.
Game 5 is scheduled to be played in San Antonio, where the Knicks will seek to finish the series and end their 53-year championship drought.
