NEW YORK — Jay-Z performed at Yankee Stadium after a security breach delayed the start of his final concert in the New York venue’s anniversary series, with organizers temporarily closing entrances as officials worked to manage crowds outside the stadium.
The concert, scheduled to begin on Sunday evening, was delayed for several hours after groups of people without tickets attempted to enter the venue and some breached security checkpoints, according to a joint statement from the New York Yankees, Roc Nation and Live Nation. The organizations said entrances were closed for an extended period to address safety concerns before fans were allowed to enter gradually.
Jay-Z took the stage shortly after midnight and addressed the delay, telling the audience that officials had prioritized safety before allowing the performance to begin. He said he did not want to start the show while large crowds remained outside in a situation that could have created a risk of people being injured.
The New York Police Department reported no arrests connected to the incident, and authorities did not report any major injuries following the disruption. Security personnel remained involved as ticketed attendees were admitted through controlled entry procedures.
The performance was the final night of Jay-Z’s three-show run at Yankee Stadium, which marked anniversaries of two of his influential albums, “Reasonable Doubt” and “The Blueprint.” The series featured guest appearances from several artists across the performances, with the closing show including appearances by performers such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, Usher, Pharrell and others, according to reports.
In their statement, the Yankees, Roc Nation and Live Nation thanked stadium security staff and law enforcement for their response, saying attendee safety had remained the priority throughout the disruption.
The incident occurred as the concert industry continues to face scrutiny over crowd management and venue security procedures at large-scale events. Organizers have not announced any further changes related to the Yankee Stadium performances beyond confirming that the final show proceeded after the delay.
