SEMARANG — Indonesia and China have launched the Sino-Indonesian Shipbuilding Technology Academy (SISTA), a joint vocational education initiative aimed at strengthening maritime industry skills and expanding cooperation between universities and shipbuilding companies in the two countries.
The academy was formally established at Diponegoro University's Vocational School in Semarang through the signing of a framework agreement between the Indonesian university and three Chinese partners: Jiangsu Shipping College, Zhongtian Technology Group Marine Engineering Co., Ltd., and the Nantong International Economic and Technical Cooperation Association, according to the university and Indonesia's state news agency ANTARA.
Professor Budiyono, dean of Diponegoro University's Vocational School, said the academy is intended to create an integrated platform linking higher education, industry and innovation to develop globally competitive maritime professionals. According to the university, the initiative will expand opportunities for Indonesian students through international education, industry collaboration and practical training.
The launch was accompanied by additional implementation agreements involving Indonesia's State Maritime Polytechnic (Polimarin), the Semarang Maritime Polytechnic (PIP), several academic departments at Jiangsu Shipping College and multiple Indonesian and Chinese companies to support vocational education and industrial cooperation.
Jiangsu Shipping College Director Liu Fangwu said the partnership would be implemented through academic exchanges, study visits and joint educational programs, according to ANTARA.
The academy's first activity is an International Summer Course involving more than 100 students from Jiangsu Shipping College, Diponegoro University and Polimarin, marking the initial implementation of the new partnership. Officials have not announced additional programs beyond those already agreed, and further details are expected as the collaboration develops.
