LONDON — Australia defeated England by seven wickets at Lord's on July 5 to win the Women's T20 World Cup for a record seventh time, completing an unbeaten campaign and denying the hosts a title on home soil.
England, who had also won all six of their matches before the final, made 150 for four after being sent in to bat. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt made an unbeaten half-century, while Freya Kemp added 44, with the pair sharing an 80-run partnership that gave England a competitive total.
Australia's disciplined bowling restricted England's scoring rate and ensured the hosts could not build the kind of total that had powered them through the tournament. Kim Garth and Lucy Hamilton were among Australia's key performers with the ball, according to the International Cricket Council.
The Australian chase was led by Beth Mooney, who scored 64 from 49 balls, and Phoebe Litchfield, who made 48. The pair put on a century partnership as Australia reached 98 for one inside 10 overs and maintained control of the chase. Australia completed the pursuit at 153 for three in 17.1 overs, winning with 17 balls to spare.
The victory gave Australia its seventh Women's T20 World Cup title in 10 editions and its first global championship since the 2023 tournament. The result also marked Australia's return to the final after missing out in the 2024 edition.
Mooney was named Player of the Tournament after anchoring Australia's successful chase, while the ICC said the final attendance at Lord's exceeded 28,000, a record crowd for the competition.
England's defeat ended a perfect home World Cup record for the hosts, who had entered the final unbeaten and had advanced after beating South Africa by 40 runs in the semi-final. Australia had reached the decider with an eight-wicket victory over the West Indies.
The tournament concluded with Australia unbeaten and England runners-up after a campaign in which both finalists had won every match before the title decider.
