BOSTON—Boston police are investigating after a body was found at a rental property linked through ownership records to the husband of U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley, authorities said on Saturday, adding that no information has been released about the identity of the deceased or the circumstances surrounding the death.
Officers responded shortly before 2 p.m. local time to a report to "investigate a person" at a property in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood, according to the Boston Police Department. After arriving at the scene, investigators reclassified the incident as a death investigation, which is now being handled by the department's Homicide Unit. Police said no further details were immediately available.
Property records reviewed by multiple news organizations identify the building as being owned by Conan Harris, Pressley's husband. A spokesperson for the Massachusetts Democrat said the residence is a rental property and that Pressley is not the landlord.
"The Congresswoman extends her deepest condolences to the impacted family," the spokesperson said in a statement.
Authorities have not identified the deceased, disclosed a cause of death, or said whether they believe foul play was involved. The designation of a death investigation does not, by itself, establish that a homicide has occurred. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to assist in determining the cause and manner of death as the investigation proceeds, in line with standard practice in Massachusetts.
The property, a multi-bedroom home in Mattapan, has been listed for sale in recent weeks, according to real estate records cited by local media. Harris, who married Pressley in 2014, previously served in public safety and municipal government roles in Boston before founding a consulting business.
Pressley represents Massachusetts' 7th Congressional District and is a member of the progressive group of House Democrats commonly known as "the Squad." There is no indication from investigators that the congresswoman or her husband is suspected of wrongdoing in connection with the death.
Boston police said the investigation remains active. Officials have not announced any arrests or released additional information as they continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
